Script
In our trailer, we have decided to have very little dialogue to help increase tension throughout the trailer. Luke (patient) talks very little throughout the whole trailer to make him tell a story and describe Bloody Mary. This helps show the audience the creation of suspension which results in an effective trailer.
Beginning of trailer -
Ben: Phycho profile 14, patient 20 showing signs of schizophrenia and paranoia. Luke, can you hear me, who’s Mary?
Ben has a position of authority in this trailer, he is playing the doctor and symbolises some sort of hope towards Luke, the mental patient. Ben is created to have the power in the room and seems in control. Adding realistic dialog in the script, helps to give the Doctor more realism within the character himself.
Luke: *breathes in heavily* Mary...
Luke: Black… black eyes…
Luke: Tears… down her face...
Luke: Black hair… pale face...white dress…
With Luke playing the mental patient in the trailer, he is positioned as weakened and frightened. Showing midshots of Luke with his head lowered down and only being able to mutter words in the dialogue, he is being presented as the victim in the trailer. We wanted Luke to tell the story throughout the trailer giving it an erie and discomforting feel and atmosphere.
End of trailer -
At the end of the trailer comes a more suspenseful scene, it shows the two characters together again but a more unexpected out come occurs.
Luke: Mary
Ben: What did you say?
Luke: Bloody Mary
Ben: Luke?
Luke: Bloody...Mary
Ben: Who's that?
Luke: (Shouting): Mary!! *throws table* - at this point there is a power reversal change in the characters, Luke being the victim gains the power in the room and Ben, the doctor becomes submissive and terrified. This was put into the trailer to give the audience something unsuspected and surprising.
Ben: (Shouting): Calm down Luke!
Luke: (Shouting whilst grabbing Ben): Mary!!
