How we used new media technologies in construction, research,
planning and evaluation stages
One of the main new technologies we used in the construction, planning and evaluation stages was 'Final Cut Express'. This program was vital to us in our construction as it allowed us to easily manipulate not only the organisation of the clips and soundtracks but also to the length, volume, speed and effects. Another technology we used in our construction is 'Photoshop' which helped us to produce our poster by using tools like 'burn' or 'clone' and overlays over imported images. We also used 'LiveType' in our construction to produce our title in a variety of fonts and colours and experimented with different effects like 'Fade in' and 'Fade out'
In our research, planning and evaluation stages we used social media sites such as 'Facebook' or other sites like 'YouTube'. This site allowed us to gain feed back from a variety of sources which we then can use to develop and improve our media project. This also helped us to evaluate our final product of our poster, magazine and trailer.
Prezi effected our construction stages as it was a new way to display and work with information in a simpler and easier manner than conventional Power-point or other information display sights that we have viewed. It also allows us to match images to the text we use as well as zooming into the image it's self to view the text giving a better understanding of what we are displaying.
Other computer technology's we used like Photoshop or LiveType we used in the construction and planning stages for out magazine and Poster however, LiveType was used both in the construction and planning of both the teaser trailer. These programs were useful as they allowed us to plan and construct our poster and magazine with the variety of effects the programs allow us to use.
Pixton was another Media technology that is very recent that we used in our planning stage to produce and show our storyboards. This 'comic book style' strip that used a mixture of default images or character, or you can produce your own. This new display of story board can be seen as much more effective than ordinary black and white sketches.

Final Cut Express - Timeline and Layout
The timeline in final cut express was very usefull as it allowed us to easly track which video and soundtrack is playing as well as allowing us to easly minipulate the position and order of each. By locking the layer a spercific video or soundtrack is on, you can deleate anything on the timeline that is not on that layer; even if is connected to the locked layer and it will not effect the position of anything on the locked layor. this allowed us to download our video clips and erace the soundtrack without destroying any previous ordering and allowing us to narrate over our video clips with ease. The layout of the soundtracks allows us to adjust the volume of any point of the soundtrack to help create a scair and build up tention.
Final Cut Express - Effects
One of the effects we used in the beginning and near the end of our teaser trailer was the 'Bad TV' effect. We added the 'Bad TV' effect to a clip by selecting a clip and then clicking the 'Effects' tab at the top of the screen, scrolling down to 'Video Filters', then 'Stylize' and then 'Bad TV' and this should apply the effect to the selected clip if done correctly. This effect created a CCTV look on the screen, this also show how the patients world is distorted. Similarly we used other effects like "Light Rays" combined with increasing the speed which gave a supernatural or paranormal effect. We used this effect on a clip of "
Final Cut Express - Green Screening
In final cut express we used the green screen in our evaluation. This helps us create an interesting feedback because while you are listening to the reason they liked it you also get to see our trailer in the background aswel as a moving background image. This helps make it look profesional. This also gave us information to develop and improve upon our media production of our trailer.
Final cut express - Opacity
Opacity helped in the construction of teaser trailer as it allows us to add a layer of previous footage over our more recent footage, for example when we put an overlay of of Bloody Mary's shadow over the top of the original shot of the patient in the examination room. This was used to create the effect that Bloody Mary was in the room with the patient controlling him, without physically being there. This allowed us to experiment with different ghostly effects as well as merge clips to give shots we would no be able to create by conventional means. In effect we created our own overlay.
PhotoShop - Poster and Magazine
Photoshop was the main program used to create our Media Poster and Magazine, we used this program because its tools accessibility and usability were very ergonomic. Its tools allowed us to apply various effects such as layering images over each other and changing the opacity or creating a flawless complexion using the clone tool to copy a small section of the skin and then layer it over a flaw next to the cloned area ;for example, spots or moles; so that it fades over it so it looks natural. This gave the photo a professional look to it. Photoshop also has tools like burn that allow us to darken areas of the picture to add a sinister or creepy look to it.
LiveType
LiveType was also a new media technology that we used in the construction and development of both our poster and magazine as well as our teaser trailer. We used live type over other word-art or downloadable fonts because on LiveType you can not only find many different types of fonts but it also can add effects to these fonts that are made for a moving image or video. Effects like fading or Scatter that are a motion effect can then be added to the text and then can be imported into 'Final Cut Express so that it than can be played and layered onto or in between clips. This allowed us to create our dynamic and iconic "Bloody Mary" Title.
Facebook - feedback and reviews
Facebook was an important tool in our research, planning and evaluation stages as it allowed us to post our drafts and sketches of our media products on our walls to be viewed by other Facebook users that can comment on our work. This allows us to view there comments and use them to improve our work if necessary. It also gives us a fair and unbiased evaluation of our work.

GarageBand - Narrating
GarageBand was a minor technology we used in the construction and planning for our media trailer as we only used it once. We planned to use it while in the middle of filming our teaser trailer as we were unhappy with the quality of the sound the camera picked up and the distortion in the sound produced by sounds in the background. This program allowed us to record an entire conversation and then it allowed us to apply this conversation to a clip on 'Final Cut Express'. This helped us to make a clear audio for our teaser trailer which made it sound more professional. You can also apply sound effect that can completely change the sound of a voice on this program, making someone sound older, younger and possessed among other things.
Final Cut Express Pro - Motion backgrounds
Final Cut Express Pro is an updated version of Final Cut Express. This updated version has its own set of motion backgrounds as well as a completely different layout and look. We used this new set of motion backgrounds to create our own unique production company. We layered different motion backgrounds until we believed that it looked like a legitimate production company background and then added our text and font to complete it.
YouTube - Feedback
YouTube helped us in the research, planning and evaluation stages as it allowed us to post our drafts of our teaser trailer on-line for anybody on YouTube to view and comment on our work. This allows us to view there comments and use them to improve our work if necessary which in tern gave us a valid list of our strongest points on our media trailer as well as the weakest that we will change. It also gives us a fair and unbiased evaluation of our work so we know from an unbiased audience how well our product is.
Pixton - Storyboard
Pixton was another Media technology that is very recent that we used in our planning stage to produce and show our storyboards. This 'comic book style' strip that used a mixture of default images or character, or you can produce your own. This new display of story board can be seen as much more effective than ordinary black and white sketches. We used Pixton to help layout our storyboard to help us plan our shots as well as conventional sketches.
