In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Our media product used, developed and changed forms and conventions of real media product by using a female killer being represented as a westernised female Yuri, we did this to make the film more appealing to the male audience. You can see this through the poster where it looks as if Bloody Mary is posing in a glamourous way.
We decided that throughout the trailer, the various shots of Bloody Mary become more colourful as the trailer goes on, we did this to suggest that Bloody Mary is coming back to life. The first shot of this is of Bloody Mary crawling on the floor in a distorted manner which then progresses to Bloody Mary's face looking at the camera with more colour added to her.
By the victim's dialogue being reflected throughout the teaser trailer, we follow classic media conventions. We did this to give the audience more understanding of what is happening throughout the trailer whilst still creating the atmosphere, both creepy and menacing. We used the 'Bad TV' effect to show to the audience that the victim is living in his own distorted world, pushed there by Bloody Mary. This helps make the audience question whether Bloody Mary is living in his head or is real. This is also shown at the end of the trailer when the victim goes to attack the doctor. This emphasises the question of the reality of Bloody Mary.
We followed classic media conventions by using various shots of Bloody Mary in the cellar. This follows convention as the mise en scene is based around run down walls and chipped and cracked brick walls covered in cobwebs. This is backed up by the theory of Carol Clover that bad things happen in bad places.
